- Cinnamon Rolls:
Ingredients: Dough:
- 1 cup milk
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 1 large egg
Filling:
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 3/4 cup brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
Frosting:
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 2 cups powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2-3 tablespoons milk
Instructions:
- In a small saucepan, heat the milk until it is warm but not boiling. Remove from heat and stir in the melted butter.
- In a large bowl, combine 3 cups of flour, sugar, salt, and yeast. Pour in the milk mixture and add the egg. Stir until a soft dough forms.
- Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead for about 5 minutes, adding additional flour as needed, until the dough is smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
- Punch down the dough and roll it out on a floured surface into a rectangle, about 12x16 inches.
- Spread the softened butter evenly over the dough. Sprinkle the brown sugar and cinnamon over the butter.
- Starting from one of the long sides, tightly roll the dough into a log shape.
- Cut the log into 12 equal-sized rolls. Place the rolls in a greased baking dish, leaving a small gap between each roll.
- Cover the baking dish with a clean towel and let the rolls rise for another 30 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake the cinnamon rolls for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown.
- While the rolls are baking, prepare the frosting. In a bowl, cream together the softened butter, powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and milk until smooth and creamy.
- Remove the cinnamon rolls from the oven and let them cool slightly. Drizzle the frosting over the warm rolls before serving.
