Basic White Bread:
Ingredients:
- 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 1 1/2 cups warm water
- 4 cups bread flour
- 2 teaspoons salt
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
- 1/4 cup milk
Instructions:
In a small bowl, combine the yeast, sugar, and warm water. Let it sit for about 5 minutes, or until foamy.
In a large bowl, whisk together the flour and salt.
Add the yeast mixture, melted butter, and milk to the dry ingredients. Stir until a dough forms.
Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes, or until smooth and elastic.
Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
Once the dough has risen, punch it down and shape it into a loaf.
Place the dough in a greased loaf pan, cover with a clean towel, and let it rise for another 30-45 minutes, or until it has risen above the edge of the pan.
Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake the bread for 30-35 minutes, or until golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.
Remove the bread from the pan and let it cool completely on a wire rack before slicing.
